As a caricaturist, I try to keep my attention directed outward; I examine the light, I notice color and texture. I study faces everywhere: public places, on screen, and in print.

Faces are interesting– I wonder about the resemblances and differences between them; what history do I see in the lines? Whenever the lines “capture” a person’s essence, a “smile” is present in the drawing. Not an actual smile, but an inner one and caricature portraits should contain that.

All art should serve– it should uplift, it should have a smile, it should remind one of the truth. What is that truth? See for yourself.
